TUTORLEX TERMS & CONDITIONS


1. About TutorLex

TutorLex is an online platform that connects law students (“Students”) with independent law tutors (“Tutors”).

TutorLex provides:

  • Booking tools
  • Communication features
  • Secure payment processing
  • An online classroom

These Terms apply to all users of the platform.
Sections marked (Tutor) apply only to Tutors.


2. Using the Platform

  • You may browse TutorLex without registering.
  • To book or provide lessons, you must create an account and provide accurate, complete information.
  • By using TutorLex, you agree to these Terms.

If you do not agree with these Terms, you must not use the platform.


3. Accounts & Security

You are responsible for:

  • Keeping your login details secure
  • All activity carried out under your account
  • Informing TutorLex immediately if your account is compromised

TutorLex reserves the right to suspend or close accounts that breach these Terms.


4. TutorLex’s Role

TutorLex will:

  • Provide and maintain the website and online classroom
  • Facilitate bookings and payments
  • Take reasonable steps to keep the platform secure
  • Verify Tutor identities where required
  • Handle complaints and refunds in accordance with these Terms

TutorLex does not guarantee uninterrupted service and may perform maintenance when required.


5. User Responsibilities

All users must:

  • Act professionally, honestly, and lawfully
  • Use TutorLex for all bookings and communications
  • Not post offensive, misleading, or unlawful content
  • Not bypass the platform to arrange off-platform lessons

TutorLex may monitor platform activity to prevent misuse.


6. Students

  • Students must be 18 or over to book lessons themselves
  • Students under 18 must have an account managed by a parent or guardian
  • Payment details must be valid and kept up to date
  • Students must ensure suitable equipment and internet access
  • Lessons must not be recorded or shared without permission

Cancellations

  • 24+ hours before a lesson: No charge
  • Within 24 hours or missed lesson: Charged in full

TutorLex is not responsible for the actions or quality of Tutors.


7. Tutors (Tutor)

  • Tutors are self-employed, not employees of TutorLex
  • Tutors must be 18+, legally entitled to work in the UK, and meet safeguarding requirements
  • Tutor profiles must be accurate and not misleading
  • All lessons, messages, and bookings must remain on TutorLex
  • Tutors must not complete academic work on behalf of Students
  • Tutors must attend lessons punctually and behave professionally

Tutors must not bypass TutorLex during active bookings or for 12 months after their last lesson with a Student.


8. Payments

  • Lesson fees (Tutor Fee + Platform Fee) are shown at booking
  • Payments are processed securely via Stripe
  • Tutors are usually paid within 10–14 working days
  • Missed or late-cancelled lessons are non-refundable
  • TutorLex may retry failed payments and cancel future bookings if payment remains unpaid

9. Complaints & Refunds

  • Complaints must be raised within 96 hours of the lesson
  • TutorLex will review complaints fairly but is not liable for Tutor performance
  • Refunds are issued only where justified under these Terms

TutorLex may offer goodwill refunds at its discretion.


10. Safeguarding

TutorLex is committed to safeguarding children and vulnerable users.

  • Tutors must comply with safeguarding laws and TutorLex policies
  • Parents must supervise Students under 18
  • Safeguarding concerns must be reported immediately

Lessons may be recorded for safeguarding and quality assurance purposes.


11. Liability

TutorLex is responsible only for its own actions.

TutorLex is not liable for:

  • Tutor conduct or lesson outcomes
  • Academic results, grades, or exam performance
  • Losses caused by user breaches of these Terms

Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded.


12. Intellectual Property

Users retain ownership of their content but grant TutorLex permission to use it for:

  • Platform operation
  • Marketing and promotional purposes

Prohibited content includes anything unlawful, harmful, misleading, or infringing third-party rights.


13. Changes to These Terms

TutorLex may update these Terms with 14 days’ notice.
Continued use of the platform constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.


14. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by English law.
The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
